Care Guide

Caring for a House of Quentin Jones piece is a small ritual in itself — a way to honor the hands that shaped it and the quiet gestures preserved in its surface.

Ceramic

Each ceramic is handmade, hand-drawn, and coated in glazes that hold their own soft variations. Treat the piece as you would any intimate object: attentively, gently, and without hurry.

Cleaning
Use a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap. Avoid abrasive pads or cleaners — they disrupt the glaze’s sheen and the drawn lines that give the piece its character.

Temperature & Placement
Handmade ceramics prefer slower transitions: no boiling water poured directly in, no sudden heat or cold. Display indoors, away from prolonged direct sunlight, so the glazes keep their softness.

Dishwashing / Microwaves
These pieces are not suited for dishwashers or microwaves. Their magic lies in their handmade irregularity — something best preserved by hand.

Candle Holders
Use dripless candles where possible. Let any wax cool fully before gently easing it away, or soften it with warm (not hot) water if needed.

Serving Pieces
All of our serving dishes and table pieces are food safe. For acidic, highly pigmented, or oily foods, we recommend a liner to protect the artwork over time. Please note: ceramics in the Volcanic Grey finish are not food safe.

Wall-Mounted Works
Ensure secure mounting appropriate for the piece’s weight, and any offerings you might place on it.

Above all, let your piece live at a human pace — handled with intention, cleaned with care, and placed somewhere it can glow.

Tapestry

Each HOQJ tapestry is shaped slowly — silks appliquéd by hand, threads pulled stitch by stitch. Caring for it is a continuation of that ritual. Keep the piece out of strong, prolonged sunlight to protect the natural dyes and vintage silks. Dust lightly with a soft cloth or artist’s brush, and avoid moisture, steam, or direct heat. Handle by the edges or hanging loops to protect the embroidered surfaces, and limit friction on the appliqué.

If storing the tapestry, roll it loosely with acid-free tissue rather than folding. Ensure its hanging hardware supports the piece evenly. Over time, the silks may soften or shift a little — a natural evolution of the hand-made layers.
